More Than A Game
It’s a cloudy brisk Saturday Afternoon
With the beautiful game kicking off soon
Fans flood through the stadium’s gates
Sit, hope, chant and patiently wait
The clock strikes three around the nation
Off our seats no more anticipation
The players’ nerves are plain to see
As they settle their first touch, cautiously
Who are you, who are you the crowd sing?
As number 11 gallops down the left wing
Whipping in a cross, 100 miles an hour
Number 9 emerges, connects as the tallest tower
The ball smashes into the top of the net
Angry punters scream, already lost their bet
The players embrace and salute the fans
A deafening roar of cheers and clapping hands
So now you might understand and believe me
That football is a religion in my home country
For this is more than a sport, hobby or game
It's programmed in our, blood, genetics and brain.
